The dissertation project employs and evaluates methods from Computational Social Science (CSS) within the sociology of science. Utilizing text mining, large language models (LLMs), network analyses, and machine learning, it investigates paradigmatic developments, career trajectories, and social networks to examine current trends in academic fields from a comparative perspective. The project focuses on disciplines such as sociology in Germany and the United States, as well as political science. Additionally, it critically examines the data quality of common bibliometric databases and links publication data with other sources, such as institutional information or CVs.
